Business After 5
Business After 5 Networking At It’s Best!
Business After Five is a program offered by The Simcoe and District Chamber of Commerce which helps to promote business activity in the Simcoe area.
It’s a chance for Chamber members to network &/or exhibit their goods and services in a relaxed atmosphere of informal business gathering and fun.
The program usually takes place the third Thursday of each month, with a few exceptions during the year.
Upcoming BA5 Events
October 17, 2024 – Lighthouse Festival theatre
November 21, 2024 – Morison Insurance
January 16, 2025 – Rosewood Senior Living
Indwell
We had an absolutely enlightening tour at Indwell’s Dogwood Suites building in downtown Simcoe in April. The affordable housing building offers multiple social services in house, and tenants can take advantage of community programming such as yoga and cooking classes to stay fit, learn new skills and make friends. A nice dog or two made their way through the lobby while we were there, because this is a pet-friendly building!
Hear CANADA
In October we painted the town purple with a BA5 at Hear CANADA. This brand new location in the Whitehorse Plaza has a small, hospitable staff, so we got to each have a quick hearing test while we were there. Michele Langedyk of ABEL Enterprises looks simply adorable in the big headphones!
Eising Greenhouses and Garden Centre
September was the perfect time to have a BA5 at Eising Greenhouses and Garden Centre. The mums were blooming and the greenhouse was just the right temperature for networking. Henry talked to us about the very specific education he sought out to improve the curb appeal and traffic flow at this retail plant nursery, and he fed us delicious local wines and hors d’oeuvres from the Blue Elephant!
Scotlynn
A storm tried to rattle us, but the July BA5 was a big success! We went out to the Scotlynn headquarters in Vittoria, where we enjoyed wine from Hounds of Erie and treats from Scotlynn’s in-house chef, Andy Murdoch. Funds were raised for the Norfolk General Hospital Foundation. Thanks Scotlynn!
Investment Planning Counsel
In June we met at the stunning new building at 110 Robinson St, home to our host, Investment Planning Counsel. IPC put out a spread to match the surroundings, as well as slide shows with historical photos of the location. Attendees enjoyed a little history with their networking!
Open House at the Chamber of Commerce
On a lovely evening in late May, we opened the doors of our own office to host a BA5 ourselves! Wine was generously provided by Burning Kiln Winery and we enjoyed snacks purchased from members Jensen Cheese and Townsend Meats. Mirjana was thanked for acting as Interim General Manager by our Vice-President, Renee VanKooten, and then Karen talked about what she is learning and what her goals are going to be as the new Executive Director. We had a great turnout, and a great time!
Venture Norfolk
In April 2023 Venture Norfolk threw us a high tea BA5! We et at the Venture Norfolk office on Highway 3 just East of Simcoe and we enjoyed a talk by Christine Carey, who helped us understand what Venture Norfolk does to help incubate and support independent businesses. We enjoyed tea and tiny sandwiches, and a special talk by Don Lawson about Community Living Access, a highly valued support organization that helps people to access needed services while living in their own homes.
Flooring Canada
For the January, 2023 BA5 we met up at Flooring Canada’s beautiful Simcoe showroom. Special thanks to Tim Oomen and the staff at Flooring Canada for the amazing hospitality they showed! A donation was raised at the event for Haldimand-Norfolk Women’s Services, and fun was had by all!
Florian clinic
We had a fabulous night at the Simcoe And District Chamber of Commerce Business After 5 event at the Florian Clinic & Day Spa. Thank you to Brendalee for hosting, and for the opportunity to hear about the beginnings of this amazing rejuvenating and tranquil oasis.
As a BA5 host, you have the chance to invite a charity of your choice for the recipient of the 50/50 draw. Special thanks to Sue from Cancer Support & Resource Program (CSRP) who came to talk to us about this amazing charity that gives back to our community directly. Check out their page for more info.
