The Simcoe & District Chamber of Commerce is seeking a dynamic, self-motivated, and community-minded Executive Director to lead and manage the organization on behalf of its members and Board of Directors.
Representing businesses throughout Norfolk County, the Chamber is a respected voice for the local business community and a catalyst for economic growth. As a lean organization, the Chamber is led by the Executive Director with the support of a half-time Administrative
Assistant and a dedicated volunteer Board of Directors.
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to build on a strong organizational foundation and continue the Chamber’s tradition of leadership, advocacy, innovation, and service to the Norfolk County business community.
This position is ideal for an energetic professional who enjoys building relationships, creating opportunities, organizing events, advocating for business, and making a meaningful impact in the community.
The ideal candidate understands that success in this role comes from being equally comfortable meeting with elected officials in the morning, recruiting new members over lunch, organizing an event in the afternoon, and preparing member communications before the end of the day. This is a highly visible, hands-on leadership position requiring initiative, adaptability, and a genuine passion for supporting local business.

Position Summary

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director is responsible for the overall management, administration, financial sustainability, membership growth, advocacy, communications, and programming of the Chamber.
Working with the support of a half-time Administrative Assistant, the Executive Director provides leadership across all aspects of the organization, ensuring members receive exceptional value while maintaining the Chamber’s reputation as the leading voice of business in Norfolk County.
The Executive Director serves as the primary spokesperson and ambassador for the organization, building relationships with businesses, government, community partners, sponsors, and volunteers to advance the Chamber’s mission and strategic priorities.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership and Governance

• Provide strategic leadership in partnership with the Board of Directors.
• Implement the Chamber’s strategic plan and annual business objectives.
• Support the Board through meeting preparation, governance administration, and strategic planning.
• Provide leadership and direction to the Chamber’s half-time Administrative Assistant.

Membership Development and Engagement

• Recruit, retain, and engage Chamber members.
• Build strong relationships with local businesses, entrepreneurs, community
organizations, and stakeholders.
• Conduct regular member outreach and identify opportunities to enhance member value.
• Promote Chamber programs, events, and services.

Advocacy and Community Leadership

• Represent the interests of the business community with municipal, provincial, and federal governments.
• Monitor issues affecting local businesses and communicate advocacy priorities.
• Build collaborative relationships with government officials, economic development organizations, tourism partners, educational institutions, and community organizations.
• Serve as a visible and active leader within the Norfolk County community.

Events and Programs

• Plan, coordinate, and deliver Chamber networking events, educational programs, signature fundraising events, and business recognition initiatives.
• Work with volunteers, sponsors, and partners to ensure successful events.
• Identify new programming opportunities that support member needs and organizational growth.

Marketing and Communications

• Manage Chamber communications, including newsletters, social media, website content, media relations, and promotional materials.
• Promote Chamber initiatives, events, and member businesses.
• Maintain and strengthen the Chamber’s public profile and reputation.

Financial and Operational Management

• Prepare and manage the annual operating budget.
• Oversee financial reporting and work closely with the Board Treasurer and external accountant.
• Develop sponsorships and other non-dues revenue opportunities.
• Ensure effective day-to-day administration of the Chamber office and operations.
• Maintain accurate membership records and organizational policies.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess:
• Proven leadership experience in business, association management, economic development, non-profit management, communications, marketing, sales, or a related field.
• Exceptional interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
• Strong written, verbal, and public speaking abilities.
• Experience working independently and managing multiple priorities.
• Experience organizing events and community initiatives.
• Financial management and budgeting experience.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, digital communications, social media, and database management.
• Experience working with a Board of Directors is considered an asset.
• Knowledge of Norfolk County and its business community is highly desirable.
